HR Minister takes part in HRC's 13th round

Minister of Human Rights Huda al-Ban warned Tuesday against what is happening in the Palestinian territories represented by the stark violations of all rights and freedoms
This came in al-Ban's speech in the opening of the 13th round of Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva in which she affirmed the importance of activating the international implementation mechanisms impartially, calling for collaborating efforts of the international community to perform their role in protecting the unpreserved rights.She shed light on the situation of human rights in Yemen as well as developments being witnessed in the civic society since 1990.The political and economic orientations of Yemen has reinforced commitment of the Yemeni government in the field of freedom of people and ensured their rights in forming political parties and civil society organizations which exceed 6000 in the country, al-Ban said.The minister affirmed adherence of Yemen to reinforcing and protecting all rights and freedoms, calling the international community to support Yemen to enable it to realize the set goals, improve human rights and upgrade the Yemeni woman situation. She noted the high level the Yemeni woman has reached in the political and social life.On the sidelines of the round, al-Ban met with the High Commissioner for Human Rights Navanethem Pillay who praised the tangible progress of human rights in Yemen.During the meeting, they agreed on studying a draft agreement on cooperation between the Commission and the Ministry upon which the Commission will present technical support for the Ministry and build capacities of the Ministry's staff.The minister also met with chairman of Human Rights Committee in Saudi Arabia and discussed a number of joint issues such as improving relations of the Ministry and the CommitteeIn related context, al-Ban talked with chairman of the International Federation of Human Rights over expanding activities of the Federation to include Yemen, particularly in building national capacities of human rights.They affirmed the significance of building a bilateral relation serving the situation of human rights in Yemen.
