The World Bank's Board of Executive Directors on Tuesday approved to grant Yemen $ 65 million in IDA aid for the projects of School Schistosomiasis Control and Second Rural Access.
$ 40 million out of the sum comes as addition finance for the second project that aims to reduce the isolation of poor rural people by giving them better access to markets and services. It will mainly result in more people benefiting from reliable year-round access to governorate centers by widening the initial population target from 250,000 to 450,000 people.' The rest would be directed for the first project aiming at decreasing the prevalence and intensity of infection of both urinary and intestinal schistosomiasis among school-age children by 2015 in endemic regions of Yemen. The first component of the project is preventive chemotherapy for schistosomiasis control. The second is independent monitoring, audit, and project administration, through supporting activities related to the independent monitoring of project targets and audit of project campaigns.
