A Kuwaiti Red Crescent relief convoy is to head today for the refugees from the persistent confrontations between the army and the Houthi insurgents in northern Yemen.
The Kuwaiti embassy in Sana'a said in a statement another convoy will go to Saada and Amran provinces next week. A convoy of ten trucks is due in Yemen within the next few days carrying relief materials to boost Yemen's efforts to cope with the needs of the displaced. Salim Ghasab Al-Zamanan, Kuwait's ambassador to Yemen, said the Kuwaiti Cabinet entrusted a week a go the Kuwaiti Red Crescent Committee to provide aid for the refugees in Yemen, worth $ 1 million. The aid comes within Kuwait's assistance for more than 150.000 people affected by the war to mitigate their suffering, the statement noted. The aid must contain tents, clothes and foodstuffs. On the other hand, a delegation from the Kuwaiti Relief Committee is due in Yemen for the refugees. The committee has allocated $100.000 in contribution to the relief efforts in the north. There are more than 150.000 refugees from the war which started in August. The UN has said most of them remain in urgent need for basic services such as sanitation, healthcare, shelter and water. The aid delivery takes place amid difficulties that there were not safe corroders for relief convoys to reach the affected. The UN has several times called on the government and the rebels to provide safe pathways to help the displaced.
