Laboratory director of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Kenya Kariuki Njenga said trials are currently going on in some parts of the country ahead of official release between October and November this year.He said countries like the United States and United Kingdom have already finished their trials for vaccines.Speaking during the closing of the regional scientific conference at the Sarova Whitesands in Mombasa Dr Njenga said studies had shown that the virus had now stabilized.“Latest scientific data available shows that the virus is stable and not changing to be dangerous as was previously thought. It is a mild disease that should not cause any alarm,” he said. The conference, which brought together public health, medical and livestock experts from several African countries pushed for a closer working relationship between the ministries of health and livestock. The director of public health and sanitation in the ministry of public health Dr Shahnaz Sheriff said they were now targeting policy makers in the African region to realize the importance of closer cooperation. This is coming, as it emerges that animals cause about 70 percent of the emerging diseases such as swine flu and avian flu.Dr Sheriff said it was the first time that a large group of livestock and health experts have met to  discuss ways of working together to combat diseases.“Bringing together representatives from ministries of livestock and health is a sure way of fast tracking the utilisation and implementation of the recommendations and emerging lessons,” he said
