More swine flu cases detected

Two more cases of swine flu have been
detected in the Kingdom bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to eight, the Ministry of Health announced here yesterday. “The two new cases include one from the capital and one from Dammam,” Health Ministry spokesman Dr. Khaled Mirghalani told Arab News, adding that both the persons involved arrived from the United States.The person in Riyadh is being treated at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital (KFSH) here, while the patient in the Eastern Province has been admitted to the Saudi Aramco Hospital in Dhahran.Mirghalani pointed out that all eight cases that have been detected in the Kingdom involve people who came from abroad. “The virus is being imported into the Kingdom,” Mirghalani stressed.The first case in the Kingdom was that of a Filipino nurse who came from Manila, this was followed by the case of a student who came from Washington. The third was of a three-year-old toddler and, subsequently, his father and two sisters, aged five and seven, who are all being treated at Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital here.The spokesman said that all of the patients, except the first one, are under the care of specialist doctors at reputable hospitals equipped with modern facilities to cope with the onset of the flu virus. The Filipino nurse, who is employed at KFSH, came to the Kingdom on May 29. She has since been discharged from hospital and has returned to work.The Ministry of Health yesterday called on all passengers who arrived in Riyadh from New York on board SV022 on Sunday to contact its hot line (01-4875511 — Ext: 333, 391 and 392) urgently. Lines are open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. on working days. The Ministry of Health has also set up a toll free line (8002494444) to respond to queries from the public on matters related to swine flu. Inquiries from callers are treated with strict confidentiality. Experienced doctors will be at hand to assist callers. Egypt also reported three new cases of swine flu yesterday, as two children and a Colombian woman tested positive for the H1N1 virus, bringing to 18 the total number of people affected in the country.A Health Ministry official told state news agency MENA the new cases were a 45-year-old Colombian woman and two children aged seven and eight, one of them a dual US and Egyptian citizen and the other a Canadian-Egyptian. They arrived separately in Cairo last week from the United States, Canada and Colombia.
