http://www.english.hadhramaut.info SUC approves 2009 – 2010 plan for admission to universities [The Source: /www.sabanews.net/hadhramaut.info - 15/04/2009] The Supreme Universities Council (SUC) approved here on Wednesday the plan for admission to the government and private universities for the Academic year 2009 – 2010.The plan agreed on the capacity of all the universities that reach 102,673 students with an increase rate of 27.5 percent.The SUC chaired by Prime Minister Ali Mujawar emphasized the adherence of the private universities to the higher education standards.The council approved the establishment of Shabwa University and the some departments of humanitarian and scientific studies in some governmental universities.The distance education issue was also discussed in the meeting, dealing with its educational dimensions, methodical and technical tools, correctness of its procedures and its negative impacts on the higher education in the country. Then, the council decided to suspend distance education neither inside the country nor abroad until the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research prepare a comprehensive report on this kind of education and its legislative and regulating policies as per the international approved standards.The council directed the Higher Education Minister to form a committee in coordination with World Health Organization to assess the condition in Dental Colleges in the Private Universities
