President Saleh argues the need to
develop and expand Yemen’s naval forces to meet existing threats and defend Yemeni interests. President Ali Abdullah Saleh paid a visit on Sunday to the Socotra archipelago, where he inspected the Hawlaf seaport and the conditions of the citizens living in the archipelago. President Saleh gave orders to the concerned bodies to finalize a road project inside the archipelago He also visited the Socotra Heritage Museum, which includes objects that reflect the heritage of the archipelago, in addition to other studies and books about the archipelago. During his visit, President Saleh also paid a visit to the archipelago naval camp, where he inspected the condition of the soldiers and the training programs in place. He highlighted the achievements of the camp in carrying out their tasks and duties, and praised the archipelago’s construction of roads. President Saleh promised to work hard to develop the country’s naval forces, as well as the coastguard in the archipelago to enable them to perform their tasks in protecting regional waters and fisheries. He also gave the order to finalize the telecom network and to offer internet services to the citizens of the region. He also stressed the need to finalize the construction of the 22 May Hospital in Hodibo City. The President affirmed the importance of protecting the archipelago’s environmental diversity. Members of the local council and directors of the districts of the archipelago expressed their happiness at President Saleh’s visit to the region, and expressed their thanks for his concern over the regions development. They hoped for further development and service projects in the archipelago in the future.
