Yemen's permanent delegate to the United Nations in New York affirmed on Tuesday the importance of international cooperation in combating terrorism

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Arab group of the 1st session of the intergovernmental negotiations on post-2015 development agenda, Khalid al-Yamani called urged the international community to combat poverty and achieve comprehensive and sustainable development.

He said the Arab region is still suffering from foreign occupation and terrorism, stressing the need to apply human rights principles, including right to development, an adequate standard of living and to food and water.

The sustainable development could not be realized in the absence of the rule of law, good governance, combating corruption and youth and women non-empowerment, al-Yamani said.

The intergovernmental negotiations on post-2015 development agenda will take place over several sessions. The first session will be convened on 19-21 January 2015.
