Yemen, Qatar sign human rights memo

Ministry of Human Rights and Qatari National Committee for Human Rights singed here on Sunday a memorandum of understanding in human rights field.
Minister of Human Rights Ezzuddin al-Asbahi and Head of Qatari National Committee for Human Rights Ali Bin Sumaikh al-Marri singed the memo.
The memo includes understanding on improving human rights systems and strategies and action plans made by signatories, taking into consideration improving future relations between them. It also includes spreading norms of every party to support and protect human rights.
The memo states on giving priorities to activities aiming at enhancing cooperation to improve human rights systems and human rights institutional improvement as well as cooperation in fighting human trafficking and exchange legislations in the field and cooperation between Civil Society Organizations.
Minister al-Asbahi said the draft law for establishing a human rights authority in Yemen is in the parliament for discussion and approval. The law will control Paris principles which include a number of international standards organizing activities of human rights committees across the world.
Al-Asbahi, who highlighted the leading role of the Qatari human rights committee, said the authority will be fully independent and will work within the international principles.
"The memo of understanding aims at enhancing the big cooperation between the two parts in field of human rights," said al-Marri. He made it clear that the forthcoming period will witness greater cooperation to efforts of establishing independent human right institution in Yemen.
