Yemeni Coastguard forces as they failed to commandeer a Korean cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea waters in a place 40 nautical miles offshore Aden port. A senior source at the Yemeni Interior Ministry confirmed to almotamar.net the foiling of an attempted seizure of the ship and escape of pirates after Coastguard forces received an urgent distress call from the Korean ship crew. The source also indicated the running away of the pirates after the killing of who is supposed to be their leader and the ship was given secure navigation. The Yemeni Coastguard administration has announced earlier that the year 2008 witnessed 42 piracy incidents and 69 piracy attempts and that the number of seized ships amounted to 11 maritime ships of multi-nationality. Negotiations for their release are still going on. The number of sailors retained by pirates during the same year reached 815 sailors, 593 of them has been released so far.
