Women Day the 4th national conference is to be held in Sana’a on 7-8 March 2009. The Woman National Committee in Yemen said in a statement the conference represents an important event for assessing the progress gained for upgrading the woman status and determining the gaps and challenge preventing the realization of the goals. The statement added the conference is to discuss important working papers including a report on the woman status in Yemen for the year 2008. The report assesses the level in the implementation of the woman development strategy, the extent of achieving of the policies of woman development in the third 5-year plan for development and poverty alleviation. In addition, the report offers an assessment of the volume of financial revenues of the state devoted to needs of the social gender, allocated by the government and the donors with concentration on education, the sector receiving biggest attention of the government and partners of development and opportunities available for the Yemeni woman in the promising economic sectors. The report also casts light on the woman political participation, renewing the call for applying the quota system, calling on all national forces in Yemen to enlist the question on the highest scale of their concerns and the call for specifying legal commitments in constitutional and legal amendments for the comprehensive political; reform.
