GCC interior ministers hold emergency meeting on developments in Yemen

Interior Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states late on Wednesday held an emergency meeting in the Saudi port city of Jeddah to discuss the "regrettable events" taking place in Yemen, and evaluate the latest developments at the Yemeni arena and their risks and direct implications on the local and regional security of the GCC, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
"The GCC Interior Ministers discussed the latest security developments in Yemen in light of the regrettable events that took place in the vicinity of Sana'a and other areas in addition to attacks on the security and civil institutions in Yemen which affect the sovereignty of the state and the security of the Yemeni people, expressing deep concern regarding threats against the Yemeni government and its institutions," SPA said.
The ministers expressed "condemnation of all works that took place in Yemen by using force of arms," it said.
They also denounced robbery of the properties and capabilities of the Yemeni people, and stressed on "necessity to restore all official headquarters and institutions to the state of Yemen and handing over all weapons, all looted military equipment and public and private money."
Reiterating the GCC countries' stand strongly with the Yemeni government and people through legitimacy and in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations, the GCC initiative and the outputs of the national dialogue, the ministers stressed that the GCC states will not stand idly in front of foreign categorical interventions, confirming that the Yemeni and GCC security is indivisible.
They expressed hope that Yemen "bypass this phase in order to preserve its security, stability, sovereignty, independence and unity," the agency said.
The GCC countries further stressed that "threats on the security and safety of the Yemeni people threaten the security and stability of the region and the interests of its peoples."
SPA said the meeting was held upon directives of the GCC leaders.
The meeting was chaired by Saudi Interior Minister Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz and attended by Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammed Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, Omani Interior Minister Hmoud bin Faisal Al-Bosaidi, Bahraini Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nassir bin Khalifa Al Thani and UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Saudi Chief of the General Intelligence Prince Khalid bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of the State and Member of the Cabinet Dr. Musaed bin Mohammed Al-Aiban.
