Yemeni-European talks session held in Sana'a

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning and International
Cooperation Abdul-Karim al-Arhabi held on Monday a talks session with a
delegation from the
European Parliament who are visiting Yemen
currently. In the beginning of the talks, al-Arhabi praised the growing development of the Yemeni-European relations. The
minister acquainted the European delegation with the overall
development in the economic field in Yemen and challenges facing the
country in this regard, in addition the reflections of the
international financial crisis on Yemen and the international hike in
food prices. He noted that the decrease of oil price impacted
negatively on the Yemeni economy, pointing out that the government has
taken some measures to treat these reflections via economizing
government expenses, encouraging investment and applying tax reforms. He
affirmed that the Yemeni government has started preparation, in
cooperation with the European Union, for a strategy of food security,
expressing his appreciation for the European support for Yemen efforts
to encounter impacts of the food crisis through providing supply
facilities. Al-Arhabi called for reinforcing cooperation
between Yemen and Europe to encounter challenges imposed by the global
warming by means of establishing an emergency center for quick response
to any implication resulting from this the climate change. For
their part, the European Parliament representatives expressed
appreciation for the Yemeni government concern to reinforce cooperation
with the European Union, voicing their admiration to the progress Yemen
achieved at the level of applying reforms. They affirmed the
importance of reinforcing and developing the current cooperation
between Yemen and the European Union, noting the humanitarian role
Yemen is playing in receiving Somali refuges. They also
asserted the significance of providing all aspects of support to enable
Yemen to face reflections relating to the increase of refugees flow in
the Yemeni lands.
