The Sanctions Committee appointed on 16 April based on the 2140 resolution adopted on 26 February, under which the Security Council set up a sanctions regime that includes an asset freeze and travel ban against peace spoilers and human rights abusers to be designated by the Committee.

Al-Qirbi welcomed the four-member PoE in their first visit to Yemen, expressing the government's readiness to provide all facilities to help them to carry out their tasks in Yemen.

Although the great progress achieved in the ongoing political process, Yemen still needs the Security Council's support, the Minister said.

The PoE members stressed that they would do every effort required to underpin the political transition and implement the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC).

They valued highly the cooperation and facilities offered to them by President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and the Yemeni government, hailing the achievements made so far in the political process, particularly after the success of the NDC.

On May 17, the UN Security Council reviewed the first report of the Sanctions Committee. The Committee Chair and the Lithuanian Permanent Representative to the UN Raimonda Murmokaite briefed the Council on the activities of the Committee.

After the Council's session, Murmokaite spoke to media about an imminent visit of the PoE members to Yemen.

The visit aims to investigate on the ground the information the Committee has already received, Murmokaite said. The experts will review their finding with Sanctions Committee before June 25.
