http://www.english.hadhramaut.info Yemen, WB sign $90 mln agreement to support water sector [The Source: www.sabanews.net - 24/1/2009] Yemen and the World Bank (WB) have signed a $90 million agreement of Water Sector Support Program (WSSP) allocated to support the water sector in Yemen at the cost of $340 million.
The total cost of the WSSP is $340 million. Yemen's contribution in the program is $140 million and the WB provides $90 million while the German government will offer a grant of $60 million and the government of the Netherlands will offer $48 million.
Under the agreement, the WSSP aims to improve and develop the institutional capacity of the water sector in the country in order to serve and increase revenues of using water and reduce wastage.
The agreement was signed in the Egyptian capital Cairo by undersecretary of Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation Hassan Abdullah Al-Shater and head of the WB's negotiating team Maher Abu Talib.
