http://www.english.hadhramaut.info Yemen, UN discuss action plan to prevent children's recruitment [The Source: SANA'A\Hadhramaut\Saba - Wednesday -14/May/2014] Prime Minister Mohamed Salem Basindwa met here on Wednesday with Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict, Leila Zerrougui, who is currently visiting Yemen.  Basindwa and Zerrougui discussed the joint cooperation between the government and the UN to prevent the recruitment of children, to protect them from the events and conflicts and to maintain their various rights.

The meeting dealt with the action plan that was signed on Wednesday between the two sides to end and prevent recruitment of children by the armed forces and mechanisms to implement the plan.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister confirmed the government's commitment to implement the plan and to take all necessary to prevent the recruitment of children and maintain their innocence.

He touched on Yemen's ratification and its accession to the international charters relevant to children , and its commitment to reviewing and developing the national legislation and laws in order to harmonize with those charters.

In turn, the UN's official welcomed the signing of the action plan, which demonstrates Yemen's commitment to protect future generations officially.

"It's an important step, but much remains to do together to achieve the promise of a brighter future for the children of the country", Zerrougui said.

She called on the international community to supporting Yemen in this aspect, pledging on behalf of the UN to provide full support for Yemen.
