Yemeni military delegation in talks with US army officials on cooperation

A session of talks between the armies of Yemen and the United States was held at headquarters of the Department of Defense, the Pentagon, in Washington DC last night.
The talks are part of annual consultations of the joint army staff command that are due to conclude on Thursday.
The Yemeni side was headed by the Army's Chief of General Staff, Gen. Ahmed Ali al-Ashwal, and the US side was headed by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin E. Dempsey.
During the talks, al-Ashwal praised the Yemeni-US relations and the ongoing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including those related to the exchange of experiences and cooperation in the military field.
He briefed the US side on the underway efforts to implement a plan for restructuring the Yemeni armed forces and developing the military units and training programs.
He underlined the army's role in maintaining stability and security amid the security challenges facing Yemen currently as the country goes through a power transition process.
On his part, Gen. Dempsey hailed the joint Yemeni-US efforts to enhance the military cooperation between the two countries.
He said that these efforts would help the growing relations between the two countries and promote cooperation for the best in various fields, especially the military affairs.
