Yemeni- American military talks in Washington

A Yemeni-American talks session was held on Tuesday at the building of Pentagon in Washington under the chairmanship of the two countries' Defense Ministers.
The talks come in the framework of the official visit of the Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Mohammed Nasser Ahmed to the United States at the head of a high-level military delegation for the first time in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The session was devoted to discuss the military relations between the two friendly armies and ways to strengthen the security and military cooperation in the areas of counter-terrorism and information exchange, as well as the U.S. technical aid programs to the Yemeni armed forces.
The talks touched on the restructuring of the armed forces and following up the implementation of outcomes of the two strategic dialogue rounds between the two countries, the most recently held in the past year.
The U.S. side reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the political transition taking place in Yemen based on the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference (NDC) , the strategic restructuring of armed and security forces and according the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanism ,as well as supporting the national capacity-building to combat terrorism.
Within the same context, the Defense Minister met at the Pentagon with the U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations Michael D. Lumpkin.
During the meeting, they discussed the military cooperation aspects between the two friendly countries and prospects of promoting it so as to serve the common interests of the two countries.
Furthermore, the Defense Minister Maj. Gen. Mohammed Nasser Ahmed met on Tuesday at the White House Assistant to the U.S. President for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism Lisa Monaco.
The U.S. official confirmed that his country stands by the Yemeni government and people in order to implement the NDC's outcomes and confront the common security risks.
In the meeting, the two sides talked on the mechanism of the security and military cooperation within the framework of the existing strategic dialogue between Yemen and the U.S..
Within his visit to Washington, the Defense Minister visited the National Defense University and a number of the U.S. military bases in order to get acquainted with and benefit from the U.S. expertise and experiences.
