http://www.english.hadhramaut.info FAO supports improving veterinary services in Yemen [The Source: HAJJAH \Hadhramaut\Saba - Sunday -30/March/2014] The Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Fred Mujwwar attended on Sunday a closing ceremony of the 2nd training program aiming to qualify veterinarians in local communities. The 30-day training program was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and was attended by 18 trainees from Hajjah province.

During the ceremony, Mujawwar stressed the importance of supporting and improving veterinary services in Yemen in order to assist with the development of livestock and activities of farmers and livestock breeders.

“The ministry is ready to coordinate with the Faculty of Agriculture at Dhamar University and the FAO to hold a six-month integrated training program for rehabilitating trainees to be veterinary mentors across the country”, Mujawwar said.

For his part, FAO representative in Yemen Salah Hajj Hassan pointed to the importance of the training program to support displaced people in the province in the framework of the program of emergency support provided by FAO to Yemen.

“FAO is seeking to support the livestock sector in Yemen”, Hassan said. He went to say that such training programs are a qualitative step in increasing the level of veterinary care awareness in all provinces of Yemen.

In addition, he said that FAO has provided a trainee with a veterinary medical bag, containing basic and necessary tools.
