http://www.english.hadhramaut.info Yemen, UN, GCC discuss establishing economic recovery fund [The Source: Mukalla/Hadramoutinfo/Saba.net - 2/2/2013] Prime Minister Mohammed Salem Basindwa chaired Saturday a meeting to discuss the Yemen-UN joint initiative to establish a fund to achieve economic recovery in the country. UNDP resident representative in Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, ambassadors of the GCC's states, director of the GCC office in Sana'a Saad al-Arifi and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Mohammed al-Sa'adi attended the meeting.

They discussed the mechanisms and the goals of the fund, including the financings provided by donors to priority medium-sized projects to create job opportunities for youths.

The Premier asserted that the recovering the economy leads to improving the security and political situations in the country, saying "whenever the wheel of development in Yemen runs, we will be more able to tackle the political and security conditions."

The UNDP representative reviewed the mechanism, through which the fund runs. Ahmed said the government via a steering committee in cooperation with the World Bank and other donors determines and approves the priority and proposed projects in addition to supervise and evaluate the implementation progress.
