http://www.english.hadhramaut.info Al-Amrani: media should respond to changes in Arab Spring countries [The Source: Mukalla/Hadramoutinfo/Saba.net - 16/1/2013] Information Minister Ali al-Amrani affirmed that the Arab media should respond to the changes and developments witnessed by the Arab spring countries to meet the people’s aspirations in freedom, development and unity. Al-Amrani, who chaired on Monday the meeting of the Arab Information Ministers Council in its 44th session, pointed that the media has a vital role in the life and has an increasing influence on the events in every country at the level of the world.

"The media is no longer just a conveyor of the facts and news, but it has become a contributor to making the news”, he added.

He pointed to the need of Arab States for the professional media that exercise its role with full freedom, noting that the region has been deprived of freedom for a long time and suffered from tyranny, oppression and repression in all its forms.

The minister al-Amrani warned that there some regional and international powers are exploiting the internal contradictions and the social ,sectarian or religious diversities, and any grievances in this or that country.

"It is noted that these lurking forces are exploiting the media with all its means and developments, including supporting and financing the establishment of TV satellite channels ”,al-Amrani said.

“All these challenges are waiting for the media and media professionals to have a special focus on the critical tasks and the qualitative issues that stands before us in the next phase”, he added.

The minister praised the steps taken by the GCC States in the way of union ,expressing the hope that the union of Arab Gulf states will form the basic building block to unite all Arabs.

In his speech, the minister al-Amrani touched on the suffering of Palestine for more than sixty years, and what has been experienced by Somalia for more than twenty years, and what is happening in Syria today.

He also indicated to the developments witnessed by Yemen after the popular youth revolution, noting that despite the difficulties, but Yemen was able during the past short period to overcome a lot of challenges and risks.

In this regard, al-Amrani expected the date of the national dialogue conference to be set soon by the president, hoping that all concerned parties will partake in the conference.

He continued “Yemenis are hoping that the national dialogue conference, which will last six months, will result in handlers and solutions to all issues and dilemmas faced by Yemen”.

The Information Minister Ali al-Amrani received the presidency of the current session of Arab Information Ministers Council from his predecessor Minister of Communication and Relations with Parliament in Mauritania ,Hamdi Ould Mahjoub, head of the 43th session of the Council.
