WB keen to support strategic road projects in Yemen

Resident Representative of the World Bank (WB) in Yemen Wael Zakout has confirmed the bank’s readiness to support the implementation of the strategic road projects in Yemen.
This came during a meeting gathered on Monday Minister of Public Works and Road Omar al-Kurshmi and Zakout to discuss the underway arrangements to implement the highway (Taiz – Aden) project with a length of 140 kilometers, which is a part of the highway (Amran-Sana’a-Aden) project funded by the Saudi Fund and the Yemeni government.
The meeting dealt with the price reforms adopted by the government in order to restart the projects affected by the high prices of oil derivatives, and the possible support from the Bank to cover the expected price differentials and the expected deficit in funding.
Al-Kurshmi commended the support provided by the Bank for the development process in Yemen, topped by the roads sector.
For his part, Zakout voiced the Bank’s readiness to support the political process in Yemen through the provision of economic support and the establishment of development project that will revitalize the national economy and create jobs and absorb the unemployment and alleviate poverty.
He pointed out that the implementation of the highways in Yemen is a key factor for a real renaissance in the country, affirming the importance to be among the priorities of the Yemeni government.
